It seems as though Billie Eilish came from nowhere and exploded into stardom. But going into 2022, Billie Eilish is just getting started at the youthful age of 20. With the release of a documentary, four Grammy nominations and Billie may have a lot more to surprise us this year. She has already opened up a lot about her music and personal life. But there are 7 things you may not know about Billie Eilish.
1. Black is her favourite colour
Eilish revealed that her favourite colour is black in an interview. According to her, the airport is a place usually for a meet and greet. But when she’s in a black beanie, shirt, pants and shoes, it makes her feel pretty good.
2. She was a huge Belieber
According to Eilish, she was a huge Justin Bieber fan when she was 12 years old. She even sent him a DM a year later in 2014 to which Bieber did not reply to the original message. Later on, the two of them collaborated on a remix of Eilish’s “Bad Guy” that was released in 2019 and later met up at Coachella.
3. Billie’s been writing music since 11
Billie told Vogue that she once was a member of the Los Angeles Children’s Choir. It was her time in the choir that helped her develop singing skills. She credited the choir for helping her learn the proper way to sing and not to ruin her voice completely. She revealed that she sang all the time her family had to shush her, but it was the singing that led her to write music. She learnt songwriting from her mother Maggie Baird while being homeschooled.
4. She’s a big fan of NBC’s “The Office”
Eilish is a huge fan of the NBC comedy; she even sampled dialogue from a season seven episode in her song “My Strange Addiction.” Eilish said to MTV News that producing the beat for the song reminded her of the Scarn dance and so she decided to feature the dialogue in her song.
She admitted the comedy is her strange addiction and the dialogue from the show was ripped from Netflix, not thinking they would actually say yes to allowing her to use it in her music.
5. She’s open about having Tourette Syndrome
Billie often discusses her struggles with Tourette syndrome and synesthesia in interviews and social media. She said being open about her nervous system and neuron disorders has helped her connect to her fans. With her sharing, she realised many of her fans share her ailments too.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Eilish shared her experiences with synesthesia, in which one sense is perceived along with additional senses. She said that every person she sees has their own colour and shape and number in her head and it is very normal to her.
6. She’s vegan
Billie is a lifelong vegetarian who decided to become vegan in 2014. She explained her decision to make a switch in a 2018 Tumblr post.
“I love animals and I just think there’s no point in creating something out of an animal when the animal is already there. Leave animals alone,” she wrote. She also revealed being lactose intolerant and her skin reacts to dairy.
Having been a vegetarian since growing up, she had never tasted meat and so it was no big deal for her to become a vegan.
7. Billie passed the high school equivalency exam at 15
Billie and her brother Finneas were homeschooled by their parents who were former actors. They left their careers to focus on their two children, allowing them to focus on whatever topics interested them rather than follow a formal curriculum. Despite this, Eilish passed her equivalency exam and graduated high school when she was only 15 years old.
